Are you doomed if everything's perfect...except your grades?
I've always been interested in attending a highly selective university- Duke, Columbia, Northwestern, you guy know what I'm talking about. I'm not just interested for the name, I'm interested because of the experience and education you can receive there along with the learning environment they would provide. It would look like I'm all set on my track for my goals too. I have great recommendations (well, I'm a sophomore, but I already have lots of teachers to choose from to write my recs), sweet extracurriculars (sorry for bragging but section editor and moving up at my school paper, participation in competitive summer programs, state hopeful for next season at speech team, 11+ years of dance, lots of charity work, and that's the short list), and some not too shabby test scores (30/32 on the PLAN-practice ACT, 200 on PSAT as a sophomore-214 is merit scholarship level in my state), BUT there's one thing holding me back...
my grades. It seems like a given, but for me not so much! I'm in all honors/APs except for Spanish and I have some As, but the majority of my grades in the last 3 semesters have been Bs and I even got one C+ last semester (insert collective Sparkler gasp here). Precalc sucks. Since then I've been really trying my best to stay motivated and focus on my school work to make it as strong as the rest of my work and my effort is paying off in my grades, but I'm just wondering, do you think I still have a shot at my dream schools?
What DO you think, Sparklers?
