Angels in America: A Gay Fantasia on National Themes is a two-part play by Tony Kushner that explores the AIDS crisis and its impact on the LGBTQ+ community in the United States during the 1980s. Divided into two parts, Millennium Approaches and Perestroika, the play weaves together themes of politics, religion, and human connection. It follows characters grappling with illness, identity, and societal change, all while being influenced by their encounters with celestial beings. The two parts of Angels in America were first performed in 1991 and 1992, respectively. The play won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 1993.
