Important Quotations Explained
1.
Daumier: On
first reading it's evident that the film lacks a problematic, or
a philosophical premise, making the film a series of gratuitous
episodes, perhaps amusing for their ambiguous realism. One wonders
what the authors are trying to say.
2.
Guido: I
wanted to make an honest film. No lies whatsoever. I thought I had
something so simple to say. Something useful to everybody. A film
that could help bury forever all those dead things we carry within
ourselves. Instead, I'm the one without the courage to bury anything
at all.
3.
Luisa: Indulge
yourself. Stroke your ego. Go make everyone think you're so wonderful.
What could you ever teach strangers when you can't even tell the
simplest truth to the ones closest to you? To the one who's been
growing old with you?
4.
Claudia: A
guy like your character, who doesn't love anybody, is not very sympathetic,
you know. It's his fault. What does he expect?
5.
Guido: What
is this sudden happiness that makes me tremble, giving me strength,
life? Forgive me, sweet creatures. I hadn't understood. I didn't
know. It's so natural accepting you, loving you. And so simple.
Luisa, I feel I've been freed. Everything seems so good, so meaningful. Everything
is true.
