Nervous Conditions is a novel by Zimbabwean author Tsitsi Dangarembga, first published in 1988. The novel is narrated by Tambudzai, a young girl living in rural Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe) in the 1960s, who dreams of escaping her impoverished background and pursuing an education. Nervous Conditions is a coming-of-age story that explores themes of gender, race, and colonialism, and it is widely regarded as a seminal work of African literature. It is the first book in a trilogy that also contains The Book of Not and This Mournable Body
