The Merry Adventures of Robin Hood, written and illustrated by Howard Pyle and first published in 1883, is a collection of stories about the legendary English outlaw. The book begins with Robin’s birth and follows him through his youth, his outlawry in Sherwood Forest, and his romance with Maid Marian. Pyle’s Robin Hood is a noble and generous outlaw who delights in outwitting the Sheriff of Nottingham and other enemies. The Merry Adventures of Robin Hood has been adapted for film and television many times, including the 1938 film The Adventures of Robin Hood, starring Errol Flynn.
