Admit it, dude: You have an iPhone gaming addiction. From ZombieFarm to Angry Birds, these “casual” applications have ensnared us all in their sweet yet firm technological grasp, and we are slaves to their endless updates, their valueless digital dollars, and the blind, raging need to have more, more, MORE!
Sorry. We’re still in recovery.
But we get it. It’s like one game is never enough. Like you’re always hungry for a newer game, a better game, a game to end all games.
Well, don’t worry; we’ve got you covered. Using our digital savoir-faire and nerd-centric spidey-senses, we’ve put together a little snapshot of our favorite game of the week to give you at least one valid reason to check your phone excessively. Oh, you know you do it anyway…
Game: Crime City
Deets: Produced by Funzio Inc, Free, Compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. Requires iOS 3.0 or later
Rating: 8 out of 10 on the Geek-O-Nator
The Down-low: Face it: this is the closest you’re going to get to being a gangster, so pull up your pants. Crime City is a digital microcosm of violence and sin that puts you at the head of your own mob, with a neighborhood to build to your liking.
Complete missions and move through the ranks so you can earn money and skill points (‘cause no one likes a bumbling wise guy) and use those skills to build your stamina and settle more beefs. Basically, you know, what rappers sing about. Getting G’s and popping caps. Or whatever.
With 80+ real estate properties to own, 150 weapons and cars to buy, and over 50 areas to conquer, Crime City is kind of like Boardwalk Empire with less Steve Buscemi.
Some might call this a casual game, since completing the missions and buying things is pretty mindless, but for some reason we find ourselves compelled to keep playing. Maybe it’s the vivid graphics and fun mob-themed missions. Maybe it’s the daily notifications that we’ve been robbed when we’re not being diligent enough. Maybe we just have dreams of being mafia dons, okay? Don’t judge us.
Are you addicted to iPhone games? More importantly, are you a mob boss in Crime City? Because if you are, you count as competition, and we are going to END YOU.
