iPhone Game of the Week: Temple Run
Have you ever had the urge to just take off running? Down the street, off the grid, away from your truckload of homework, your robot girlfriend, or perhaps, you know, some impish blood-thirsty monkeys? Then this game was made for you.
Game: Temple Run
Deets: Produced by Imangi Studios, LLC. Free, Compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. Requires iOS 3.0 or later.
Rating: 6.5 out of 10 on the Geek-O-Nator
Temple Run allows you to live out your 5K fantasies in the form of Guy Dangerous, the handsome stock adventure hero whose entire objective is to steal an idol from an ancient temple and then run like hell.
Using some classic, much-beloved iPhone maneuvers like the unlock-your-phone swipe (turning), the sweep-through-your-playlist flick (jump), the watching-a-cool-video-in-full-screen rotation (move left and right) and everyone’s favorite, the removing-dirt-from-your-display vertical flick (duck), you navigate Guy through a series of perilous obstacles and dramatic leaps requiring enough hand-eye coordination to officially qualify this game as exercise.
As you get better and better, you’ll qualify for new objectives and earn coins which you can use in the store for power-ups, upgrades and to unlock new players. Worth noting are the names of said individuals—including Scarlett Fox, Barry Bones, Karma Lee, Montana Smith, Francisco Montoya, and Zack Wonder—who, like Guy Dangerous, sound like characters in a film noir, or alternatively, on the marquee at a strip club. Happy playing, you wily idol thieves!
We get sweaty and tired just reading about all those iPhone maneuvers. Do you play Temple Run?
