What creators and fans alike have called "the comic book event of the year" began last week—Avengers vs. X-Men is on! Here at The MindHut, we have a simple question for you: which side do you think will win?
In Avengers vs. X-Men (or AvX), the Phoenix Force—the destructive cosmic entity that once possessed Jean Grey and caused her to do all sorts of bad stuff across the universe—is returning to Earth. To the X-Men, led by Cyclops, this looks like a sign that the dwindling mutant race could be revived; what's a Phoenix, after all, if not a symbol of rebirth? To Captain America and the Avengers, though, the Phoenix is nothing but another threat that has to be stopped before it can destroy the world. This sets Earth's Mightiest Heroes against its entire mutant population, as friends turn on friends and new allegiances are formed.
Marvel Comics is psyched to bring this event to their readers, and they've teamed up with MTV to deliver weekly video blogs about the conflict. Head on over to MTV Geek to check out the Avengers vs. X-Men War Journal, where you can get inside info from the creators on major events in the series as they develop, as well as interviews with fans and celebrities asking them to pick a side (because you know you always wanted to hear what DJ Pauly D has to say about Wolverine).
Lots of books in Marvel's line will cross over with Avengers vs. X-Men in the coming months, giving fans a chance to see where their favorite characters fall in the battle. But before things get too hot and heavy in the comic world, we want to know what you guys think. Which team has the upper hand physically? Is Hulk the strongest one there is, or can Colossus kick his butt? And how about morally? Like, even IF the Avengers are stronger, are they right to wipe out what may be mutantkind's last hope for survival? This is heavy stuff.
If you want to follow along with the AvX story yourself, check in with your local comic shop or read along digitally at Comixology. Comixology even has a free program that runs down the fighters and their stances you can download here. And if you want this writer's opinion, well, the X-Men are just cooler. 'Nuff said. Weigh in with your own thoughts below!
