TRAILER: Second Total Recall Trailer
Hey look! There's a brand new trailer for Total Recall! It’s the second trailer released for the film, and while it’s not much more revealing than the first, we do learn that Kate Beckinsale gives good wife, and that those butt-kicking skills she picked up in the Underworld flicks are still very much intact.
Take a look here.
The first Total Recall came out in 1990, starred Arnold Schwarzenegger, and was full of over-the-top action sequences and typical Arnold-ian one-liners. It also featured a corrupt Martian government battling rebel mutants.
There will be no trek to Mars this time around, which was a huge element in both the first film and in the Philip K. Dick story, We Can Remember It for You Wholesale, on which it’s based. There will, however, be sweet free-falling cars that zip up and down skyscrapers and the ever-fabulous Bryan Cranston playing the resident villain.
Colin Farrell apparently feels confident the story in the new film is strong. “It’s about a man’s journey back to himself,” he told Entertainment Weekly. “I found that infinitely interesting.”
Farrell plays Douglas Quaid, a factory worker who is plagued by bad dreams and bored with the status quo. He makes a fateful choice one day when he goes to Rekall, a too-good-to-be-true place where people can turn their fantasies into actual memories.
Quaid goes to Rekall for some excitement, thinking that acquiring some memories of being a badass superspy might be the perfect thing to combat his listless days and nights. Naturally, right? But his reality becomes unhinged and uncertain when, (in the scene featured in the trailer in which Colin Farrell takes out a dozen Stormtrooper/Boba Fett hybrids) he learns that all of his existing memories aren’t his—they’ve been implanted in his brain—he’s really a rebel freedom fighter!
When he goes to tell his wife what has happened and she tries to kill him (Kate Beckensale’s character looks like she could eat Lara Croft for dinner), he discerns that he cannot trust anyone or believe anything and goes on the lam.
He hooks up with Melina, (Jessica Biel) another rebel fighter who at first glance seems to be his ally, but with the blurring of memory and reality, we can’t know for certain. They pair up to try to find the leader(s) of the underground resistance.
Bryan Cranston plays Chancellor Vilos Cohaagen, the leader of the Orwellian sounding Euromerica, and the reason there’s an underground resistance in the first place.
Total Recall hits theaters August 3, and was directed by Len Wiseman (Underworld).
