Latest Game of Thrones Casting News!

By Beth Mishler

We have loads of Game of Thrones casting news to report, Masterminds! Several pivotal roles for season three have recently been cast, and with them, a few questions the readers of the Song of Ice and Fire had have been answered (namely: yes! We will see Jojen and Meera Reed next season!). Here are the casting decisions we know of so far:

Ciaran Hinds (the dude who played Julius Caesar in Rome) has been cast in the pivotal role of King Beyond the Wall, Mance Rayder. Mance, the leader of the wildlings, will be directly involved with Jon Snow and his brothers in black. Last we saw, Mr. Snow was being taken to see Mance after being captured by his wildling posse.

Diana Rigg (Emma Peel from the original 60’s TV show The Avengers) will play Lady Olenna Tyrell—aka—The Queen of Thorns. Fans of the show haven’t heard much about this lady yet, but fans of the books know that she’s quite a spectacular character! We won’t give any spoilers, other than to say her storyline will bring her to King’s Landing, where her granddaughter is betrothed to the sinister boy-king Joffrey.

Thomas Brodie-Sangster and Ellie Kendrick will play Jojen and Meera Reed, two of the most beloved characters in the books. Sangster is best known for providing the voice of Ferb in Phineas and Ferb, and, as far as looks go, he’s exactly what we pictured! Kendrick (no relation to Anna) is a relative newcomer, but given Thrones’ penchant for finding talent, we’re confident these two will rock these roles! Expect to see them get involved in Bran’s storyline next season!

Richard Dormer was cast as Beric Dondarrion, the leader of a band of rebels called the Brotherhood without Banners, who roam the countryside. Dormer hasn’t done much work we’ve seen, but he certainly looks the part! Look for Arya and her band of brothers to run into Beric and his!

Ed Skrein will play Daario Naharis, the leader of the Stormcrows, a sellsword-esque group of killers that take up with Daenerys. Our favorite dragon queen is on the hunt for an army to help her reclaim the Iron Throne, and she finds herself distracted by Daario’s gem-like eyes and funky purple facial hair. Jacob Anderson has also been cast as Grey Worm, the leader of the Unsullied, a group of eunuchs that Dany also encounters.

Clive Russell has been cast as Catelyn’s uncle, Bryndon “The Blackfish” Tully, and Tobias Menzies will play Cat’s brother, Edmure. These two will have small roles at first, but will become bigger players in later seasons. Russell played Captain Tanner in the recent Sherlock Holmes films, and Menzies is another Rome alum (he played Brutus).

To check out these actors, as well as a few more insignificant roles have also been cast, you can go here.

Which upcoming character(s) are you most excited to see on GOT next season?
