We've mentioned recently that there is a TV show in development that will exist in the Avengers universe, but won't actually include the Avengers, themselves. Well, now it has a name: S.H.I.E.L.D. ABC has inked a deal with Joss Whedon to bring S.H.I.E.L.D. to the small screen. S.H.I.E.L.D. is an acronym for the Strategic Hazard Intervention Espionage Logistics Division/Directorate, and, if you’ve seen The Avengers, (and at this point, who hasn’t?) you’re at least somewhat familiar with what they do.
Although Whedon will only consult on the show—he won’t be the show runner this time around—Vulture.com reported that he will write it, along with his brother Jed and Jed’s wife, Maurissa Tancharoen, who also co-wrote Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog with Whedon.
So now the big question is: who will bring Nick’s fury? Will Samuel L. Jackson grace the small screen with his presence? We’re doubt it, but that would be awesome! Will pivotal roles be recast, or kept to a quick-quick minimum, much like Jackson’s in and out cameos in both Iron Man and Thor? Could we maybe see a certain hilarious agent? Clark Gregg recently took to Twitter and referred to his beloved character Agent Coulson, who perished in The Avengers, as a “zombie,” fueling speculation he might resurrect the character, or be onboard in some capacity. Yes, please!
So who will be cast as the villianous Norman Osborn or the seismic Daisy Johnson? No one knows, but The Huffington Post correctly noted that Whedon very often recycles cast members from his former shows, and in a bit of speculative casting, they decided Contessa Valentina Allegra de la Fontaine should be played by Eliza Dushku, and Firefly’s Summer Glau would be a good Jessica Drew. Not bad choices—we especially like the choice of Glau as Drew—and it got us wondering who you Masterminds might like to see cast as the S.H.I.E.L.D posse? Who would make a bomb Dum-Dum Dugan? Community’s about to be canceled—how about Alison Brie as Carol Danvers?
Who do you want to see in the S.H.I.E.L.D. cast?
