The fork wasn't introduced to the American colonies until roughly a decade after the first Thanksgiving was celebrated in 1621, when astute Massachusetts Governor John Winthrop was all like, "Hey guys! Forks." Thus, the observers of the first Thanksgiving ate their cooked turkey with a spoon—or, more likely, their own Typhoid-befouled fingers.
