8. The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade Used Live Animals From 1924 Until 1927

Yes, for the first three years of the parade's storied run, Macy's simply "borrowed" a host of live animals from the Central Park Zoo and traipsed them triumphantly down the decadent streets of midtown Manhattan. No record remains to confirm whether the animals were also outfitted in the finery of the times, whether the lions were supplied monocles or the zebras awarded Armani tophats to match their fashionable stripes, but most historians agree that, no, they probably weren't.
