Venus is a death trap of hellish proportions. The Venera probes sent there by the Soviet Union could only snap a few quick pictures before dying dramatically. But Geoffrey Landis at NASA's Glenn Research Center has a new solution for studying Venus: a rover that sails instead of drives. The technology would take about 10 years to develop, but the motivation is clear: as the project's site says, "sailing on Venus! How cool is that?"
