Considering how many people expected the world to end in 1000 CE, it's no surprise that the year 2000 was met with similar prophesies. What was surprising was that religious predictions were outmatched by a global fear that computers around the world would crash with a "Y2K bug." It didn't happen, but the dot-com bubble popped only three months later, making the year 2000 kind of a mixed bag for our robotic friends.
