Soyal, Southwest United States and Mexico

On December 21, the Hopi and Zuni tribes begin the 16-day festival known as Soyal, in which the Sun is woken from its long slumber. To celebrate Soyal, distribute prayer sticks to your family, friends, and neighbors to bless them for a coming year, or just yell "Wake up, sleepyhead!" at the Sun. Pictured: Mesa Verde.
