Speaking of DARPA's scifi-inspired projects, let's talk about mind-controlled prosthetics. That's right: limbs as smart as Luke Skywalker's right hand may be on the way. Last year, Wired magazine reported that DARPA is developing prosthetics with a brain/computer interface that would allow amputees to control the motion with their thoughts. Though these limbs are being developed for the military, DARPA hopes to extend their use to civilians.
