Toni Morrison

Both Song of Solomon and The Bluest Eye are beautifully written by Morrison and will force you to think of perspectives beyond your own. Eye centers on Pecola, who, while coming of age, grapples with her perplexing physical appearance in a story that’s both relatable and winsome. The symbol-laden Solomon is about the life of Milkman, a rather privileged black man who goes off in search of gold and gets craziness in return. Both are unpredictable and worthy of your valuable time.
