Valentine's Day can always be a bit of challenge for those of us without a significant other, but hey, don't worry! The good news is there's definitely a geeky girl out there for you, and we thought we'd give you all a few key tips on ways to woo that geeky girl of your dreams.
Tip # 1 - Know where to find them
For those of you in school, this one is a breeze; they're probably all over the place. If you're not, or you happen to go to a school where girly geeks are about as rare as the dodo bird, don't distress, just hit the geekiest spots in your area. This includes libraries, bookstores, coffee, and comic book shops. You might even check out who's playing the video games in the lobby of your local movie theatre. Chances are, you'll find a geeky girl there, too!
Tip # 2 - Read, read, read and read!
Yes, reading makes you smarter! In fact, right now, as you are reading, you are growing incrementally smarter, and geeky girls love smart guys. Internet articles are a great place to start, but if you really want to get that cute little brainiac, it's important you read lots of books. Not only will it feed your mind with essential brain-nutrients, but sharing information about your favorite books, authors, or just fun facts can often lead to some great conversation.
Tip # 3 - Don't Be Mean!
There's this horrible misconception that a guy can get a girl to like him purely by acting like a putz. Maybe there are some girls out there who respond to such things, but if they do, they aren't for you! A geeky girl knows who she is and respects herself, so putting her down is only going to make you look bad.
Tip # 4 - Find out what her geeky obsessions are
If the girl in question is one you often see, try to pick up on what she likes. Does she wear Doctor Who t-shirts or read Manga books all the time? Well, if you're if you're a Doctor Who and Manga n00b, then get thee to the internet and do your research (and make sure you know if she's a fan of Doctor 10 or Doctor 11)! Try to develop an appreciation for the things she likes if you don't love them already. The more you know about the things that capture her imagination, the more you'll have to talk about.
Tip # 5 - Be interesting
Some girls care about how much you have in your bank account, what kind of car you drive, or whether or not you've got a face that could be on the cover of GQ. All geeky girls want is just for you to be interesting, and this should allow you to breathe a huge sigh of relief, because you never have to put on an act. Are you sometimes clumsy, or do you have a unique laugh? Don't worry! That's the great thing about geeky girls; they appreciate our quirks and often find them endearing. So when we say be interesting, we basically mean just be yourself!
Tip # 6 - Compliment her by saying "You'd make a great Doctor Who Companion"
Let's face it, if she's a geek in this day and age, there is a 99.9% chance she loves Doctor Who. By employing this simple compliment, you're actually paying her several compliments at once. It tells her that you think she's witty, pretty, fun, and has great sense of style, because that's exactly how all the companions are. It's an all purpose geek-girl compliment!
Tip # 7 - Just Listen
Sometimes we guys can talk up a storm, but nothing turns off a geeky girl more than a guy who doesn't let her get a word in edgewise. If this girl truly is awesome, then like we said, you don't have to go out of your way for her to like you. So spare her lengthy monologues (unless it's an AMAZING story) and just sit back and listen to what's on her mind.
Tip # 8 - Forget All These Tips!
We don't really mean that, but we kind of do! You know how when you're doing things you love (maybe playing an instrument or kicking butt at World of Warcraft) you don't really think about what you're doing? Well that's because it's just second nature to you. Don't get bogged down in the details, have an idea of what you might say, but when the time comes and you're face to face, just let it all happen. Your mind should only be on her and having fun around her. As long as you're doing that, you really don't need any rules.
