The Church of England

The Lovers: Henry VIII, King of England, Catherine of Aragon, his queen, and Anne Boleyn, his lover.

The Gesture: The Church of England, which was essentially founded because Henry VIII was a player. He was bored with being married to his first wife Catherine, and fell swiftly in love with her consort, Anne Boleyn. He petitioned the Pope to let him annul his marriage, breaking completely with Catholic tradition to get his way. All Anglican denominations owe their existence to Henry's lust for Anne... not that this affair had a very happy ending. Henry got restless again, and had Anne executed so he could marry his third wife (out of six). Getting a Valentine from this jerk was basically getting a death sentence.
