A big problem with colonizing Mars is keeping the settlers well-nourished. The low estimate for travel time there would be three or four months, plus however long settlers would expected to stay, plus the return trip! Dried fruit simply won't cut it over that amount of time, so scientists suggest building greenhouses to sustain the first settlers. Eat your Martian greens!
