The History of the NASA Spacesuit



In 1984, Bruce McCandless was the first astronaut in history to participate in an untethered space walk, and was aided by a jetpack like machine called the Manned Maneuvering Unit, or MMU. These devices are no longer used, but machines similar to the MMU are employed in case of emergency.
