The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger

The kind of book that just about everyone has to read at one time or another, The Catcher in the Rye is a wonderful bildungsroman (meaning “coming of age” story) about a high school dropout named Holden Caulfield. There really isn’t a big, serious, overarching plot to The Catcher in the Rye; it’s more about a young man finding his way in a world from which he feels like an outcast.
