Jersey Devil Kangaroo

A tastelessly cruel hoax, one New Jersey man profited off the fears of locals by gussying up a poor kangaroo to look like the Jersey Devil. Charging curious (and gullible) patrons to take a gander at his demonic acquisition, a hidden accomplice would poke the kangaroo with a nail on a stick, causing it to shriek and hop about madly in its cage—making it appear to be a creature prone to sudden bursts of savagery. Eventually the man came forward and admitted it was all a sham.
