9 Scientific Inaccuracies in Iron Man 3

Blast Off

The Movie: After discussing top secret information with James Rhodes in front of children (real smart), Tony Stark has an anxiety attack and retreats into his parked suit. Rhodes tries to help him as a group of spectators forms, but Iron Man blasts off a mere foot away.

Real Life: "Oops, sorry I vaporized Rhodes and a bunch of random people!" Tony Stark. Here's the thing about rockets: they are very, very hot when launched. That's why when people observe rocket launches in real life, they keep their distance from the launchpad (and even so, you can feel the heat off those bad boys). So if you find yourself next to an antsy Iron Man, do yourself a favor and stand back. Unless you love becoming mostly gaseous in one second flat.
