The Golem and the Jinni, Helene Wecker (available now)

This story, set in 1899 NYC, centers on some very culturally different beings who try to find ways to mesh with the confusing and mundane world around them. The Golem, Chava, came to NYC on a steamer and meets Ahmed the Jinni, who, after living in a bottle for ages, has social awareness skills that make Sheldon Cooper’s look advanced. Their connection and relationship are a tad predictable, but their journey and the mad-crazy villain they go up against are not. A quick way to get your mysticism on this summer.
