The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter

Possibly the oldest science fiction story in existence, The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter is a 10th century Japanese folk tale that tells the story of a man who discovers a tiny baby in a piece of bamboo. The baby grows up to be the most beautiful girl in the village, only then to reveal that she is actually a visitor from the Moon who was sent to Earth as punishment.
