Totally Geeked Out Vacations!

Rob Hainer /

5. Hobbiton

Since Peter Jackson's Lord of The Rings trilogy captivated audiences just over a decade ago, New Zealand has basically made it their cottage industry, and the ultimate example of this is the Alexander family farm, better known as Hobbiton. This sprawling majestic setting was discovered by Jackson's location scouts in 1998 before filming of the LOTR, and they found it so closely resembled the shires described in Tolkien's classic that they needed to look no further. The destination has become so popular that the once humble farm now contains a small hotel and even a bar called the Green Dragon. This is truly one vacation to rule them all.
