Duck Billed Platypus

The Australian duck billed platypus is known for being one of the most surreal creatures in existence, but the fact that this bizarre little creature is VERY deadly somehow gets lost in the mix. Yes, along with the slow lorus, the platypus is one of the world's only venomous mammals, but its venom is far more excruciating than that of the lorus. It administers this defensive measure from a spur found on the male's hind limbs, and although not fatal to most animals (including humans), it can cause temporary paralysis and a lingering pain that can last for months, and strangely, the venom's pain is seldom dulled by pain relievers even as strong as morphine!
