Matt Smith Is Leaving Doctor Who

In decidedly uncool news, Matt Smith has announced that he will be leaving Doctor Who at the end of this year.  He will star in November’s Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Special before making his final appearance as the Eleventh Doctor in the show’s Christmas Special.

Said Smith, “Doctor Who has been the most brilliant experience for me as an actor and a bloke, and that largely is down to the cast, crew and fans of the show. I'm incredibly grateful to all the cast and crew who work tirelessly every day, to realise all the elements of the show and deliver Doctor Who to the audience. Many of them have become good friends and I'm incredibly proud of what we have achieved over the last four years.”

Smith had enormous shoes to fill as the Doctor to follow David Tennant, but fill him he did with his own eccentric, wonderful take on the character.  To whomever now has to follow Smith we say, good luck!  We look forward to seeing your take on this marvelous character.  But in the meantime we’ll be over here, crying into our fish fingers and custards.

Are you sad to see Matt Smith go?  What were some of your favorite Eleventh Doctor moments?  And who do YOU think should be the Twelfth Doctor?
