8. Christopher Eccleston (Ninth Doctor)

Similar to Paul McGann, Eccleston suffers from a small sample size. In Eccleston’s case, this was self-imposed, as he left the show after only one series. He was great when things got heavy, as he was arguably the darkest Doctor on screen, but he never really quite had the comedic timing to put him higher on the list. Still, there were some great, memorable episodes during his one season, including “Dalek” and “The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances.”
