Fall And Winter Movie Trailers That Have Us Psyched

Fall And Winter Movie Trailers That Have Us Psyched

By Gabriel Laks

It’s hard to believe that we’re already almost halfway through the summer movie season. Was it really all that long ago we were waiting with baited breath for Iron Man 3, Man Of Steel, and Star Trek Into Darkness?  Before you know it summer will be over and we’ll all be lining up to see *gasp* Fall and Winter movies!  To prepare you, we’ve compiled this handy dandy list of trailers for movies coming out between October and December that have caught our eye.

GRAVITY (October 4)

This sci fi thriller starring Sandra Bullock and George Clooney is the first film director Alfonso Cuaron has made since 2006’s Children Of Men.  Cuaron also directed Harry Potter And The Prisoner Azkaban so you could say he’s a bit of a wizard behind the camera, but why would you?  That’d be a stupid thing to say.  Please don’t say that.

TAKEAWAYS

-The effects are amazing…and terrifying.

-This seems like it could be a downer, but sometimes a downer movie can be just what you need.

-In space nobody can hear George Clooney make you swoon.

ENDER’S GAME (November 1)

This sci fi actioner adaptation of the beloved book sees Asa Butterfield playing Ender, a child trained to combat alien soldiers who’ve traveled thousands and thousands of light years to wipe out humanity… and make Harrison Ford grumpy.

TAKEAWAYS

-Sir Ben Kingsley is the only person alive who could pull off a face tattoo.

-Asa Butterfield was really good in Hugo.  We’re excited to see what he does with such an iconic character.

THOR: THE DARK WORLD (November 8)

In order to defeat an evil army led by Malekith the Accursed (played presumably fantastically by Ninth Doctor Christopher Eccleston) Thor has to team up with his sweet girlfriend Jane Foster and…*record scratch* Loki!??  Presumably the latter teamup is just to defeat the army and not also to star in a wacky buddy cop comedy, like they do in our spec script “Police Thorce: Streets Of Asgard: Nights.”

TAKEAWAYS

-This Thor sequel was directed by Alan Taylor, who’s also directed a bunch of Game Of Thrones episodes (including the one with the thing and Ned Stark and guysdon’tspoilthisfornonwatchers/readers).  He’s got a great eye for visuals, which this trailer really shows off.

-We don’t see much of Eccleston in this trailer, but publicity stills of him that have been released look awesome.

-Loki!  LOKILOKILOKILOKILOKILOKI!!!!

THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE (November 22)

After winning the Hunger Games, Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark must tour the nation of Panem as its evil president plots their demise and revolution percolates in a film starring Tumblr’s favorite person to gif: Donald Sutherland.

TAKEAWAYS

-There’s a real keen sense of danger in this new trailer.  The threat feels organically escalated, which should really give Katniss a chance to shine.

-Jennifer Lawrence looks to give an incredible performance, as per usual.

-The cast for this is just stacked, when you get right down to it.  Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Elizabeth Banks – all terrific actors.

THE HOBBIT: THE DESOLATION OF SMAUG (December 13)

Bilbo Baggins and company continue their journey to reclaim the Dwarves’ kingdom and kill Smaug the Dragon, voiced by Benedict Cumberbatch—a man who in real life somehow manages to be a total dreamboat while actually kind of looking like a dragon.

TAKEAWAYS

-Dragon!

-Seeing him onscreen for the first time in 10-years made us realize how much we missed Legolas Greenleaf: a lot a lot a lot.

-True or False: Martin Freeman is the world’s most charming man.

Which one are you the most excited for?
