17. The Toxoplasma Gondii Parasite

If aliens visited Earth, they might well consider bacteria, not humans, to be the dominant lifeform. After all, bacteria can be found thriving in practically every environment, and they far outweigh the plant and animal kingdoms in terms of biomass. Each species has its own incredible abilities, but we are going to focus on the terrifying "thought control" talents of the Toxoplasma Gondii parasite. This resourceful little protozoa has a literally mind-blowing strategy: it commonly infects rodents, and then messes with their brains so much that the host seeks out cats. This is because T. gondii can only complete its reproductive cycle in feline intestines. The zombified rodent walks right up to its natural predator, gets eaten, and the T. gondii parasites throw an orgy to celebrate. What a messed up, ingenious, terrifying superpower! Oh, and by the way? Humans can be carriers for these little guys too. Sleep tight!
