The terrifying Blair Witch Project remains one of the highest grossing independent films of all time, and all with a measly production budget of $60,000. The ads were ingenious, though, and essentially acted as though the film was actual found footage of a small crew of filmmakers that went missing, presumably murdered by the Blair Witch that the film's characters set out to document. The ads were so effective that many refused to believe the film was a work of non-fiction, and it went on to become one of the most talked-about films of its decade.
