Stromatolites

Fossils are by definition ancient, so it's no surprise that the oldest of them all stromatolites are pretty Earth-shatteringly geriatric. Dating as far back as 3.5 billion years, these sedimentary records of early microbial life are among our only portals into the primordial landscape of early Earth.
