The Epic of Gilgamesh
The Epic of Gilgamesh is based on the life of a real Sumerian king, who ruled the city-state of Uruk around 2700 BCE. This guy was such a beloved badass that people could not shut up about him for centuries afterwards, and eventually they wrote his story on clay tablets around 2000 BCE. The epic, which follows Gilgamesh as he smacks up divine bulls, steals from demons, and attempts to cheat death, is considered to be the oldest tale ever recorded. And it's still on bookstands today, proving Gilgamesh really did achieve the immortality he so greatly craved.
