Following the death of Peter Parker in Ultimate Spider-Man, Marvel Comics created a media frenzy when they unveiled the late hero’s successor: The biracial Miles Morales. Though criticized by the closed-minded and grossly misinformed, the vitriol did nothing to prevent fans from embracing the Ultimate Universe’s new web-slinger, praising Marvel’s providing young Latino and African American fans with a positive role model. And as a teen hero, Miles brought Spider-Man back to his early roots when fighting super villains paled in comparison to the rigors of school.
