You know Quint's famous Indianapolis speech in Jaws? Yeah, that's all about the terrifyingly opportunistic oceanic whitetips. This predator prefers to roam the open ocean where prey is not quite so abundant, so it has to be quick to make the most of anything that comes along. That's what makes it such a concern for victims of plane crashes and shipwrecks (indeed, whitetips have been known to creepily trail ships like vultures). Their strategy is perfectly described in the Indianapolis speech: a full-out feeding frenzy. Bloodied water only attracts more ravenous whitetails to the area, where they throw caution to the wind, feeding until there is nothing left but the life preservers.
