Field records from the museum specimens revealed that the olinguito was found in the northern Andes Mountains at 5,000 to 9,000 feet above sea level. As this distribution map shows, the new species’ habitat is in the cloud forests of Ecuador and Colombia. Further research may show they also appear in similar habitats in other South American countries.
