Meet the World's Newest Mammal Species: The Olinguito

Mark Gurney

When the olinguito’s existence was finally confirmed with a camcorder video, Hegen went on a three-week expedition to find the carnivore with Roland Kays, director of the Biodiversity and Earth Observation Lab at the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences and the one who helped organize the field expedition.

Once they found the olinguito they documented its characteristics, behavior, and home.
