9. Neanderthals Had Style
In 2009, archeologists published a paper about a fascinating discovery in a Spanish Neanderthal settlement. Ancient shells at the site were loaded up with mixed pigments, similar to modern cosmetics containers. The 2009 study concludes that Neanderthals likely enjoyed body painting, and had a special fondness for glitter. And that's not all: some of the shells had holes in them, so they could be strung together like beads. This suggests that in addition to makeup, Neanderthals liked to get decked out in jewelry. What we wouldn't give to see a Neanderthal fashion show!
