8. Some Neanderthals Had Red Hair!

Neanderthals were "kissed by fire" in more ways than one. Genetic analysis of Neanderthal remains has revealed that some of them sported red hair. This mutation is different in Neanderthals than the corresponding ginger gene in humans, but both evolved due to the drearier conditions of Northern Europe. It's kind of awesome to imagine a Neanderthal sporting locks as brilliant as those of Queen Christina Hendricks.
