20 of Our Favorite YA Novels: Who Should Play the Lead?

Holden Caulfield in The Catcher in the Rye - Freddie Highmore

Of all the novels that people have been reading forever, The Catcher in the Rye is the most obvious that doesn't have a film version yet. Author J.D. Salinger never wanted his masterpiece to be turned into a movie, but now that he has passed away it remains to be seen if his estate will be playing a different tune. We can't think of anyone better suited to the role of Holden Caulfield than Freddie Highmore, the star of the horror series Bates Motel. He's one of the most talented young actors working today, and we can pretty much see him as any male character in their teens or 20s.
