Emperor Palpatine Isn't a Scary Geriatric

Before he became the shriveled albino raisin of hate that ruled the galaxy with an iron fist, Emperor Palpatine (referred to simply as "The Emperor" in the comic) was a scrawny, pointy-eared humanoid that resembled a cross between Sinestro and Ming the Merciless—nemeses of the Green Lantern and Flash Gordon, respectively. The latter of the two isn't a surprise as the entire Star Wars saga is a homage to the vintage sci-fi franchises of yesteryear.
