The Rebel Alliance Symbol is an Eagle

Only the truly devoted of Star Wars fans know that the insignia of the Rebellion is meant to depict a stylized phoenix taking flight, known as the "Alliance Starbird." In The Star Wars comic, however, the use of a bird as a symbol remained since the early draft, taking the form of a silhouetted eagle as evidenced by the Rebellion inner circles' secret rings.
