Robert J. Sawyer’s Neanderthal Parallax

Robert J. Sawyer is known for occasionally trying to do too much in terms of message with his books, but the Neanderthal Parallax trilogy is definitely Sawyer at his very best. In the novels, a Neanderthal travels through a portal from his version of Earth where the Neanderthals survived instead of our version of humanity, and finds himself in our world. There, he discovers how different we are, and the novel has a lot to say about the environment, genetics, religion, and just about every topic that makes people who they are.
