The Yeti

Perhaps better known to western folk as the Abominable Snowman, the ape-like Yeti is basically a snowbound version of Bigfoot. and is one of the most famous creatures in all of cryptozoology, the study of legendary creatures of questionable existence. The legend of the Yeti started with the Himalayan people, who worshipped a "glacier being" as a God of the hunt. In the 1950s explorer Eric Shipton took photographs atop Mount Everest of footprints many believe to have belonged to the elusive Yeti, but critics contend that they must belong to a more mundane creature whose tracks had been distorted by melting snow.
