20 Scientific Errors in Gravity

The Fire Extinguisher

The movie: Stone evacuates the Soyuz and uses the blowback from a fire extinguisher to maneuver her way to the Shenzhou.

Real life: While we appreciate her MacGyver-ism, this little trick wouldn't have worked (even though it did for Wall-E). She'd have to point the extinguisher away from the spacecraft in order to propel herself towards it, thus driving without any idea of the whereabouts of her target. It would also be very unlikely that she could match the velocity of the station using that dinky little can. Like jetpacks, extinguishers just weren't meant to be outer-space propulsion devices.
