7. Scadrial (Mistborn trilogy)

 Brandon Sanderson sets his Mistborn trilogy on the world of Scandrial. This series exhibits some of the most inventive worldbuilding in fantasy today, including a coherent magic system that involves internally burning metals to perform superhuman feats. It would give plot points away to explain all of it, but we highly recommend that you check it out for yourself.
