Noughts & Crosses by Malorie Blackman

Although apparently a big name across the pond, Malorie Blackman has yet to find a huge following stateside. Noughts & Crosses is a great sci-fi/fantasy set in a fictional racist dystopia were the script of history is flipped: the Africans gain a technological advantage of the European people and enslave them, instead of the other way around. It may lean a bit more towards sci-fi than fantasy, but this doesn't change that it is absolutely a must read.
